Roof Work for Houses With a Past
Most roofs we see have been worked on before, sometimes more than once. We do roof repair when a section can be saved and roof replacement when it can't. Roof inspections tell you where things stand, storm damage repair gets you through a claim, and gutters keep water away from the walls and foundation.

Roof Replacement
We tear off old layers down to the wood, fix what years of past repairs left behind and build a new roof that fits the way your home is put together.

Roof Repair
We find where water really gets into an older roof, fix that spot properly and tell you straight if the roof has more life in it.

Roof Inspections
A careful look at your roof, attic and old repairs, with photos and a plain account of what needs work now, what can wait and what is fine.

Storm Damage Repair
After hail or high wind, we separate new storm damage from old wear on your roof, photograph both and repair what the storm broke.

Gutters
Gutter repair and new continuous gutters, with the fascia checked first and downspouts placed to keep water away from your foundation.

A Roofing Company That Starts With Questions
We're Roofing Spencer, and most of our work is on houses that have been around a while. That means roofs with past repairs, mixed materials and parts that were standard decades ago but aren't anymore. We like that kind of work. It takes patience and a careful look.
We keep things simple. We show up when we say we will, explain what we find in everyday words and give you a price on paper. If you want to know more about who we are, the About page has the rest.

How We Work on Older Roofs
A roof that has been up for decades has a history, and that history changes the job. Here is what it means for how we do things.
We look for the old repairs first
Tar over a vent, a second layer of shingles, a patch in a different color. Each one tells us something. We find them before we decide anything, so the plan fits the roof you actually have.
Photos of what we find
You probably won't climb up there. So we take pictures of the trouble spots and walk you through them on the ground.
An estimate you can read
Our estimates are written out line by line. Tear-off, decking, flashing, vents and cleanup each get their own line, so nothing is hidden in one big number.
Repair when repair will do
Plenty of tired-looking roofs still have years left in them. If a repair is the right call, we say so. If the roof is past fixing, we explain why in plain terms.
Your yard treated like ours
We cover shrubs, protect the driveway and run a magnet over the grass for nails. The site gets picked up at the end of each day.
How a Roof Job Runs
Most jobs follow the same steps. You'll know what's next at each one.
- 1
You tell us what's going on
A leak, a storm, a roof you've been wondering about. On the phone we get the basics, like where the trouble shows up and roughly how old the roof is. Then we pick a day that works for you.
- 2
We look at the roof and the attic
We check shingles, flashing, vents and gutters, then look from the attic for stains and soft decking. You get photos of what we saw.
- 3
You get a written estimate
It lists each part of the work. We go over it with you and answer questions. No pressure to decide that day.
- 4
Work day
We protect the yard, do the work and keep the site clean as we go. A full replacement on a typical house usually takes a day or two, weather allowing.
- 5
Final walk-around
We check the finished roof, sweep for nails one more time and show you what was done.
Questions Homeowners Ask Us
Something not covered here? (405) 977-0460
Will a repair do, or does the whole roof need replacing?
We look at shingle age, the number of layers and the condition of the decking. A few raised shingles or a cracked vent boot usually means a repair. Bald shingles across the roof, edges curling up and spongy spots usually mean a new roof. We give you photos, what we'd recommend and the reasons for it.
Can you lay new shingles on top of the roof I have?
A second layer is sometimes permitted, but we rarely recommend it on an older home. It puts more weight on the house and covers up any rotted decking you'd want to know about. Stripping to bare boards lets us find and repair what's there so the new roof sits on sound wood.
Will my insurance pay for hail or wind damage?
That decision belongs to your insurance company, based on your policy and what the adjuster sees, not to us. We can check the roof, take pictures of the hail or wind marks and explain them in everyday words. If you'd like, we can also be up on the roof during the adjuster's visit. More is on the Storm Damage Repair page.
What happens if the wood under the shingles is rotten?
On roofs this age it happens often, usually near chimneys, valleys and eaves. We stop and show you in person, or send photos if you're out. Then you hear how much wood has to go and what it costs before we keep going.
Do you handle the permit?
We do. When your town requires a permit, we pull it and set up any inspection that goes with it, so you don't have to.
Does someone need to be home while you work?
Most of the time, no. We'd like a quick talk with you when we start and again when we finish. If anything comes up during the day, we'll phone you. Please leave the driveway open and keep pets inside.
Should I replace my gutters when I get a new roof?
Only when they need it. Gutters that are sound, the right size and draining well can stay put. If they sag, are rusted through or hang on rotted fascia, doing them with the roof saves a second setup and lets us fix the edge boards while they're open.
Is your work covered by a warranty?
Yes, our work carries a 10-year workmanship warranty. Ask about it when you call, and we'll go over how it covers your job before any work begins.
What Moves the Price on an Older Roof
No two roofs cost the same to fix or replace. The price depends on what is up there now and what is under it. Here is what we look at.
We give you a written estimate after we've been on the roof. If we find something new once the old shingles are off, we stop, show you, and price it before doing the work.
- How many layers come off
- Lots of houses built decades ago have two layers of shingles, sometimes three. Every layer adds tear-off time, labor and dump fees.
- The decking underneath
- Houses from that era often have plank boards instead of plywood. Gaps, soft spots or rot have to be fixed before new shingles go on. We can't always see this until the old roof is off, so we tell you up front how we'll handle it.
- Size and pitch
- A bigger roof takes more material. A steep one takes more time and safety gear.
- Flashing, vents and chimneys
- Old lead boots, rusted flashing and missing drip edge are common. Replacing them adds cost but stops the leaks that start at those spots.
- Materials you choose
- Basic three-tab, architectural shingles and impact-rated shingles all price differently. We show you the tradeoffs and let you pick.
- Permit and season
- If your town requires a permit for the work, getting it is on our list, not yours, and the fee shows up on the estimate. Spring hail fills roofing calendars quickly, so getting on the schedule early gives you more choice of dates.
