Storm Damage Repair for Older Roofs in Spencer

A storm doesn't hit every roof the same. On a house with some years on it, hail and wind find the brittle shingles, the tired flashing and the patch someone did long ago. We sort out what the storm broke from what was already worn, show you photos, and fix it right.

What Storm Damage Repair Covers

Storm damage repair means fixing what hail, wind or wind-driven rain did to your roof. That can be a few torn-off shingles on one slope. It can be bruised shingles across the whole roof, bent flashing, a cracked vent boot or a gutter pulled loose from the fascia.

Older roofs make this harder to read. Shingles that are 15 or 20 years old have already lost granules and gone stiff. There may be two layers on the house, or past repairs with mismatched shingles and tar. Some of what you see up there is age, not the storm. We have more than 30 years of roofing experience, and a lot of that time has been spent telling the two apart.

That matters for your repair and for any insurance claim. You want the storm damage fixed, the existing problems named honestly, and a clear answer on whether a repair will hold or the roof is due for replacement.

What the Work Includes

  1. 01

A full roof walk, not just the obvious spot

We check every slope, the ridge, the valleys and the edges. Wind lifts shingles on the side you can't see from the yard.

  2. 02

Photos of storm damage and age wear, labeled

You get pictures of hail bruises, creased shingles and bent metal. We also photograph wear that came from years of sun and mark it that way, so nobody mixes the two up later.

  3. 03

    Flashing, vents and pipe boots

Hail cracks plastic vent caps and dried-out rubber pipe boots. Wind bends step flashing and drip edge. We replace these parts while we are up there, since they are where leaks start.

  4. 04

Decking check where shingles are off

Older homes often have plank decking or thin sheathing. Where shingles are torn off, we look at the wood underneath for soft spots or water stains before we close it up.

  5. 05

    Gutter and downspout repair

Hail dents gutters and wind pulls them off their hangers. We fix or rehang them as part of the same job. Our gutters page covers full replacement if they are past saving.

Signs the Last Storm Hurt Your Roof

  • Shingles in the yard

Any shingle on the ground came off your roof or a neighbor's. Either way, it is worth a look.

  • Dents on soft metal

Check gutters, downspouts, vent caps and the AC unit. If those are dented, the shingles took hits too.

  • Granules piling up at the downspouts

A heavy pile of gritty granules after a hailstorm means shingles lost their protective coat. Bare spots age fast in summer sun.

  • New water stains inside

A fresh ceiling stain or damp attic insulation after wind-driven rain points to lifted shingles or bent flashing.

  • Creased or flapping shingles

Wind can bend a shingle back and crease it without tearing it off. It looks fine from the ground but no longer seals.

  • A past patch that's leaking again

Storms find weak repairs first. If an old trouble spot is acting up, the storm may have opened it back up.

How a Storm Repair Job Goes

  1. 1

    We talk on the phone

You tell us what happened and what you've noticed. We set a time to come out and look.

  2. 2

    We inspect and photograph

We climb up and walk every slope, then look in the attic when there's a way in. You get photos and a plain account of which damage came from the storm and which came from years of weather.

  3. 3

    You get a written estimate

It lists each repair line by line. If the roof is too far gone for a repair to hold, we tell you that straight and walk you through roof replacement instead.

  4. 4

We do the repair and clean up

We cover plants and protect the yard, tear off only what needs it and match shingles as closely as a worn roof allows. Stray nails and shingle scraps get picked up from the grass and driveway before our truck pulls away.

What Moves the Cost

Storm repairs range from a handful of shingles to most of a slope. The price comes from what we find, not a flat number. Your written estimate shows each item so you can see where the money goes.

How much of the roof was hit
A few missing tabs is a short job. Hail across every slope is a different conversation.
What's under the shingles
Soft decking, extra layers or rotted fascia add work once we open things up. We show you photos before doing anything extra.
Matching discontinued shingles
Some shingle styles from past decades aren't made anymore. Finding the closest match, or deciding a slope needs redoing, affects the cost.
Metal parts and gutters
Replacing flashing, vents, pipe boots or gutter runs adds materials and time.

Storm Damage Questions

Will my insurance cover this?

That depends on your policy and on what the adjuster decides. We aren't the adjuster. What we can do is give you clear photos and notes that separate new storm damage from wear that was already there, so you know what you are filing for. On an older roof, that separation is often the main question.

My roof is old. Will they just blame age?

They may look at age closely, and some of the wear on a roof that age really is age. Hail bruises and wind creases look different from normal aging, and we point those out with photos. You go in knowing what's what.

Can you patch it or do I need a new roof?

Often a repair is enough. If the shingles are brittle enough that they crack when we lift them, a patch won't hold and we'll say so. Either way you get a straight answer before you spend money.

Is the repair work guaranteed?

Ask us when you call and we'll go over what's covered for your job before we start. Damage from a later storm is a separate matter.

Do you work outside Spencer?

Yes. We work across the area, including Midwest City, Choctaw, Del City and Oklahoma City. Our service areas page lists more.
